Priority-based multiplexing of IP-streams onto shared cellular links

چکیده
We will present a new resource allocation strategy that allows efficient mapping of variable-rate IPstreams onto shared cellular links, while minimizing the overall bandwidth consumption and still meeting the individual quality-of-service constraints. It is based on the general principle of Class-Based Queuing, with several modifications to adapt it to the specific characteristics of wireless links. Compared to other simpler solutions that do not support any prioritization of data streams, it yields significant performance improvements in terms of guaranteed bandwidth per user/service and fairness among competing streams, as will be shown for a GSM-GPRS system.

Dynamic Multiplexing of IP-Streams onto Shared Cellular Links
We will discuss the problem of multiplexing variable-rate IP-streams onto shared cellular links, which is usually more difficult than performing resource allocation in fixed networks due to the timevarying and location-dependent nature of the wireless channel. Hence, we will show that simple schemes, if they are not supplied with additional link status information, do not yield acceptable resul...
متن کاملRtp4mux: a Novel Mpeg-4 Rtp Payload for Multicast Video Communications over Wireless Ip
The ISO/IEC MPEG-4 multimedia content creation, management and distribution framework is foreseen to be an important component of many forthcoming Wireless IP Multimedia services. However, current approaches for transporting MPEG-4 Elementary streams over IP networks are not optimized for wireless group communications. To address this issue we propose a novel Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP) ...
متن کاملDesign and Analysis of a High-Performance Packet Multiplexer for Multiservice Networks with Delay Guarantees
A major challenge for the design of multiservice networks with quality of service guarantees is an e cient implementation of a bounded delay service, that is, a service that guarantees maximum end-to-end delays for every packet from a single tra c stream. A crucial component of a bounded delay service is the packet multiplexing technique employed at network switches that must keep the variable ...
متن کاملAn integrated heuristic for best effort scheduling of (m,k)-firm streams in point-to-point networks
In point-to-point networks, real-time services are supported by sending real-time streams over guaranteed or best-effort channels [1]. A stream consists of packets moving across individual links on the point-topoint network from a given source to destination. For each link, a scheduler is responsible for determining which packets shall be transmitted according the queue of packets stored. For s...
متن کاملA priority-aware CSMA/CP MAC protocol for the all-optical IP-over-WDM metropolitan area ring network
The paper proposes a priority-aware MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol for a core metropolitan area network in the next generation Internet, which is an OPS (Optical Packet Switch) network that all-optically and directly transfers IP packets over a WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) ring network. It uses the concepts of CSMA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access), CP (Carrier Preemption), and th...
